  2. Ramses had a co-regent rule with his father Seti I for a number of years before his own ascension to the throne. Though he was the son of Queen Tuya, a woman of non-royal blood, Ramses not only claims, but emphasises the fact that he was chosen by his father at a very young age to inherit the throne. However, this may have been owing to the premature death of his older half-brother, who would have most certainly, as tradition, inherited the throne over Ramses. 3. I think Ramses II deserved the title ‘The Great’ for the following reasons:

    1. Ramses the II ruled Egypt for 66 years from 1279 B.C. to 1213 B.C. and was the longest living Pharaoh of Egypt.
    2. Ramses the II used his amazing architects, (servants) to build remarkable monuments on huge scales to represent himself and remind other people how healthy and rich he was. For example: Abu Simbel, a rock temple carved out of sandstone that showed he was strong and mighty.
    3. Ramses the II had made the first peace treaty in history with his enemy the Hittite to stop numerous battles and to barter harbours and gain more land.
    4. Ramses the II was represented as a distinct god with a shining sun disc on his head raising himself higher in people’s eyes.
    5. Ramses’s dynasty survived because he had many heirs to take over the throne after his death.
    6. As traders were rolling in, Ramses the II laid a city under his name called Pi-Ramses, near the Nile delta, where all important trade routes met.
    7. Ramses the II lead many military expeditions to obtain and expand territories around the boundaries of Egypt.
