HAMPTON COURT PALACE IS A ROYAL PALACE IN THE LONDON BOROUGH OF RICHMOND UPON THAMES.IT WAS BUILT IN 1514 AND IS NOW 502 YEARS OLD .THE MOST FAMOUS RESIDENT THAT LIVED THERE WAS KING HENRY THE VIII .THIS PALACE HAS NOT BEEN INHABITED BY THE BRITISH FAMILY SINCE THE 18TH CENTURY.TODAY THE PALACE IS OPEN TO PUBLIC AND IS A HUGE ATTRACTION.HAMPTON COURT PALACE IS A HUGE PALACE AND IS VERY BIG IT IS ABOUT 1000 TIMES LARGER THAN A HOUSE.THE PALACE WAS INHABITED FIRST BY KING HENRY THE 8TH THEN INHABITED BY EDWARD THE 1ST AND THEN QUEEN MARY OF SCOTS INHABITED THE PALACE THEN QUEEN ELIZABETH THE 1ST INHABITED THE PALACE.

Hampton Court Palace is a wide and wonderful palace on the banks of the River Thames. It is so big you could fit 6 football pitches in it.
ReplyDeleteCardinal Wolsey started to build it in 1514 but Henry liked the look of it. When Wolsey didn’t get him the divorce he wanted Henry gave Wolsey just four days to get out and took it for himself. Wolsey had just built a small palace but Henry VIII expanded far and wide. There were new kitchens and new bedrooms for him and his wives. Previously Hampton Court was in the country so the air was cleaner. Kings and queens came here to escape the plague and other Illnesses and to hunt.
After that William III and Mary II knocked down some of Henrys part and rebuilt it in the French style. William III died after falling of his horse when it stumbled over a molehill at Hampton court.
Hampton Court has 241 decorative brick chimneys.
In 1986 William III’s Apartments were badly damaged by fire. It took conservators six years to restore them!

It is perhaps easiest to think of Hampton Court as the ‘story of two palaces’: a Tudor palace, established by Cardinal Wolsey and made even more magnificent by Henry VIII, alongside a baroque palace built by William III and Mary II.

Hampton Court Palace was built in 1514 and is situated in Surrey, between Kingston and Molesy. The most famous resident of Hampton Court Palace is Henry VIII. Interestingly, one of Henry VIII’s hunting grounds was Bushy Park. Catherine Howard is believed to haunt the gallery of the palace. When Henry VIII was living there, 600 people worked at the palace. Henry did not build the palace he received it from Thomas Wolsey, a few years later Henry arrested Wolsey because he did not achieve what he wanted him to achieve.

Tennis was extremely popular in Tudor England. The tennis courts at Hampton Court Palace were made in 1526 and are set in about 60 acres of gardens!

Hampton Court Palace is a royal palace in the London Borough of Richmond upon Thames, Greater London. The British royal family have not lived there since the 18th century. The palace is 11.7 miles (18.8 km) south west of Charing Cross and upstream of Central London on the River Thames.
The palace was bought by the English monarchy in 1528. This was when Thomas Wolsey gave it to Henry VIII. It stayed a royal palace for the next 220 years. In its lifetime, it saw twelve monarchs on the throne, until George III stopped living in it after the death of his wife. There was a fire at Hampton Court in 1986. It is currently owned by Historic Royal Palaces, which also owns places like the Tower of London. It is open to the public. It has many gardens, and also has a maze.

Hampton Court Palace was built by Cardinal Thomas Wolsey between 1515 and 1530.When it was first built, Hampton Court was not meant to be a royal house. Cardinal Wolsey lived there by himself until July 3rd, 1529, when he left Hampton court and never returned back. King Henry VIII took up Hampton Court as his own home and began making it bigger. Henry VIII was most famous resident.

ReplyDeleteHampton Court Palace is a famous building, constructed in 1514 by Cardinal Thomas Wolsey. Initially, it was not supposed to be a royal home; Wolsey lived there alone until July 3rd 1529, when he was ordered to leave the building in four days by Henry VIII because he had not given him the divorce he had wanted. After this, Henry expanded it and added many luxuries to it.
It is located in East Molesey, Surrey and no monarch has inhabited it since the reign of King George II. It also has a maze, which is one of the great attractions of Hampton Court Palace, and a closed tennis court (built in 1625).

Hampton Court Palace was considered modern and sophisticated when it was built in Tudor times. It had bowling greens, a 36,000 square foot kitchen and a toilet area that could seat 30 people.
Tennis was extremely popular in Tudor England. The tennis courts at Hampton Court date from 1526 and are set in about 60 acres of gardens.
The last monarch to live in the palace was George II, and the palace was first opened to tourists in 1838, by Queen Victoria.
The famous maze at the palace is the oldest surviving hedge maze in the UK and it was designed in about 1700. Today, it includes half a mile of paths and sounds depicting Tudor life, are triggered by sensors.
Another highlight of the palace is the astronomical clock, designed in 1540. It shows the hours, days of the week, high tides, phases of the moon and signs of the Zodiac.
The Great Hall has a hammer beam roof and tapestries decorating the walls. The plays of William Shakespeare were performed here during the early 17th century.
About 600 people were employed at Hampton Court Palace.he huge state of the art kitchens at Hampton Court Palace had to provide meals for hundreds of people at least twice a day. Today, they are still used to prepare authentic Tudor style banquets.

Skeletor is the name given to a ghostly figure that was spotted on CCTV in 2003.
William Shakespeare performed plays in The great hall at Hampton court palace for king James I in 1603 , which is also in the year that Elizabeth I died.

Wolsey foreshadowed this, and, instead of bearing the dishonour, presented it as a gift to King Henry VIII, who made vast improvements to it - in modern money, the amount he spent would total to about £18,000,000. Later, many other residents improved it, such as William 11 and his queen, who gave it the demeanour of a baroque palace.

Hampton Court Palace is supposedly home to many ghosts, such as those of Catherine Howard, Jane Seymour, and many other people that died there. The world was taken by storm, however, when, on one bitter, winter night in 2003, a pair of fire doors opened mysteriously, after closing hours. It was investigated by the CCTV crew, members of staff and many more, but there was no explanation. The next day, though, the fire doors opened again. But this time, it wasn’t who opened them that was significant - it was who closed them. A tall, supernatural skeletal figure, dubbed many different names such as ‘Skeletor’, and also the ‘CCTV Ghost’. It later became famous worldwide.

ReplyDeleteThe majestic Hampton court palace was built in 1514 by Cardinal Wolsey, a famous architect. It was a gargantuan build, the size of more than six football build. After Giles Daubeney moved out of the palace, the new tenant was the notorious Henry VIII.
A change in style
Henry VIII had six wives, each staying at the palace. When Henry was with his first wife, he ordered Wolsey to give him a divorce, but Wolsey refused. So Henry told Wolsey that if he has to get out within four days. So Wolsey left and Henry VIII became owner.
When Henry owned the court he made several changes, expanding it broadly and creating many new rooms. By the end of his time, Hampton Court was one of the biggest palaces in the world as of then!
The heirs to the Tudor throne
When Henry died in 1547 of obesity, he was succeeded by his 9-year-old son Edward, who lived in the palace at the time. He did little to improve the palace, but maintained it well throughout his brief reign.
Same followed in 1553, when Mary I ascended to the throne. She desired to change portraits and other things to Catholic ones, but this went back to normal when Elizabeth I ruled.
Post-Tudor Times
When the Stuarts came to England, they reinforced changes to Hampton Court, making it more authentic and demolishing what Henry made and making it their own. Their creation still stands today, except when they were burnt down in 1986, but rebuilt soon after.
Hampton Court Today
Hampton Court Palace is still one of the most renowned tourist attractions today, consisting of a layer of mossy grass around it where many come to relax and to see the view in the summer. It is also a vivid learning experience, to learn about the country’s past.
But overall, it is such a visited attraction because many are amazed to know that the greatest kings and queens of England lived here
