  4. Tutankhamun was the 11th pharaoh of the 18th dynasty in Ancient Egypt.

He was probably born at Akhetaten which was the capital city of Egypt then.

Tutankhamun was 17 when he died and probably came to the throne when he was 8 or 9.

His Queen Ankhesenpaaten was the third daughter of Akhenaten and Nefertiti.

During his reign Tutankamun bought back the old religion that his Dad had abolished and repaired many of the temples that his Dad had destroyed. He also moved the capital city back to Memphis.

He brought peace and harmony back to his people, fixing the chaos his father had caused during his reign.
Priests were allowed to use their scripts of the old religion and temples were rebuilt to the relief of Egypt’s people.

  12. 5 Facts about King Tutankhamen

    Fact 1
Tutankhamen was only nine when he was crowned king, and reigned about ten years. Most of the decisions were made by Ay, father of Nefertiti (see Fact 4) or Horemheb, an army commander, as Tutankhamen was such a young king.

    Fact 2
On 4th November 1922, Howard Carter discovered the tomb of King Tut. Due to the fact that the mummy was so well preserved, archeologists are now able to get a more detailed insight of his life.

    Fact 3
As years passed, scientists and archeologists used available clues to solve the mystery of Tutankhamen's death. Two of the most popular theories are that he got bludgeoned on the back of the head and suffered greatly, or that he fractured his leg and it got infected. However, the real cause is still not determined.

    Fact 4
It is thought that the young pharaoh married his half sister. His father, probably Akhenaten, married Nefertiti, who then gave birth to six daughters. Akhenaten also married a lesser woman, Kira, and Tutankhamen was born. Queen Ankhesenamun was the third eldest daughter of Nefertiti, and when she was 13 and Tutankhamen 10, she married him: back then family marriage was common.

    Fact 5
After the discovery of Pharaoh Tut's tomb, certain events are believed to happen. At that time, the media was sure that it was the Curse of the Mummy. Financially, Lord Carnarvon supported the hunt which later led to Carter's discovery. But seven weeks after the official opening of the burial chamber, Carnarvon died after a mosquito hit him on the cheek and the wound infected. It was later that archeologists identified a lesion on the cheek of the pharaoh himself. In Cairo, the lights suddenly switched off (even though this was quite a frequent occasion) and in his house in England, his dog Susie howled - then unexpectedly died. The fact that Howard's Canary was eaten by a snake on the opening day of the tomb is also ominous. The media stated that a wide range of people involved with the discovery of the coffin died shortly too. However, they tend to ignore or miss out the truth: most of these people were old aged or in poor health.

  19. top 5 facts
    1. Tutankhamun was only eight or nine when he became ruler of Egypt. As King at such a young age, most of the decision-making was made by two senior figures, likely to have been Ay (father of Nefertiti) and Horemheb, an army commander
2.Tutankhamun was only King for about ten years before dying in his late teens. It was estimated that he ruled from 1333 BC to1324 BC
3.Over the years, scientists have used available technology to determine the cause of Tutankhamun's death. The two most popular theories about his death are that he suffered a blow to the back of the head, either accidentally or deliberately (in other words, murder), or that he broke or fractured his leg which became infected - an infection that led to his death possibly only days later.
4.Tutankhamun may have married one of his half-sisters. It is thought that Tutankhamun's father was Akhenaten. Akhenaten was married to Nefertiti, who bore him six daughters. Akhenaten also had a lesser wife, Kira, who is believed to have given birth to Tutankhamun. It is thought that Tutankhamun married Ankhesenpaaten, one of the daughters of Akhenaten and Nefertiti. Confused?
5.Tutankhamun was born Tutankhaten. Akhenaten, Tutankhamun's father, wanted Egyptians to worship one god, the Sun God Aten, instead of the multitude of gods they already worshipped and the main deity Amun. The "Aten" at the end of Tutankhaten and Akhenaten's names refers to this (Akhenaten means "servant of the Aten" and Tutankhaten means "Living image of Aten"). Akhenaten's changes weren't too popular, so when Tutankhaten was in charge, he changed things back to how they were, reopening the various closed temples around the country, and changing his name to Tutankhamun. Incidentally, Akhenaten's original name before he started making changes was Amenhotep IV.

  20. Tutankhamun was born in 1346BC and his parents were brother sister married to keep the family generation pure. King Tut was later crowned when he was 9 and was nicknamed ''Pharoh/King Boy'', because he was young that time. 10 years later, King Tut died at 19 years of age from breaking his leg and getting bone infection.

  21. 1. Tutankhamun was only eight or nine when he became ruler of Egypt, hence most of the decision-making was made by two senior figures, likely to have been Ay (father of Nefertiti) and Horemheb, an army commander, while king Tut grew into his role.

    2. Tutankhamun was only King for about ten years before dying in his late teens. It was estimated that he ruled from 1333 BC to 1324 BC. King Tutankhamun's main accomplishment during his nine-year reign was the restoration of the old Amun religion, displacing King Akhnaten's single-god Aten religion. He also moved the royal court back to Thebes, away from the city of Amarna preferred by Akhnaten.

    3. Tutankhamun's reign was obliterated shortly after his death because he did not leave a successor as both his daughters were still-born.

    4. Over the years, the two most popular theories about Tutankhamun’s death are that he suffered a blow to the back of the head, either accidentally or deliberately, or fractured his leg which became infected and possibly led to his death. However, recent researches have shown that the bone fragments in the skull were the result of a post mortem fracture. The causes underlying the knee fracture have been looked at in depth and any foul-play or murder has almost been ruled out. Using innumerable CT scan images of the mummy, the scientist were able to perform a virtual post-mortem of Tutankhamun, which has revealed that he has suffered from club foot, and Kohlers disease (rare bone disorder in foot), and would have been hardly able to walk. DNA analysis has established that Tutankhamun suffered from temporal lobe epilepsy (the fatal knee injury might have resulted from a fall during an epileptic fit) and other illnesses, mainly because of genetic weaknesses arising out of intermarriages within the royal family to keep the blood pure.

    5. Tutankhamun's tomb was discovered on 4th November 1922 by Egyptologist Howard Carter. It was very well-preserved as rubble from other tombs buried the door to King Tut's tomb and helped disguise it from robbers. Evidence suggests King Tut's burial was hurried which further points to the unexpected nature of his death. Following a chain of tragic deaths of some people associated with the excavation, there was a popular belief about the mummy being cursed. However researchers have provided new arguments to the curse theory. Tutankhamun's remains are still contained in his tomb in the Valley of the Kings at Luxor, Egypt.

  22. Tutankhamun
Tutankhamun, one of the most well-known pharaoh of Ancient Egypt. Also nicknamed as King Tut since his name was long. He was the son of Akhenatan (the sun god ‘Ra’) and the ‘younger lady’. At a mere age of nine, he became the youngest ever pharaoh ever. As a young prince, Tutankhamun was named Tutankhaten.
King Tut ascended the throne at the age of nine. Since his predecessor died, he automatically possessed the throne. However, he wasn’t in charge of the decisions, it was his guardian, the Vizier Ay. Many things were said to have happened in the ten year period of his rule. He married Ankhensenpataan (his half - sister). She later changed her name to Ankensenmun after the worship of Amun.
Tutankhamun ended the worship of the god Aten and worshipped Amun instead. He had made a momentous temple of the god. The pharaoh also changed his name to Tutankhamun. Also, Tutankhamun restored his kingdom and others. Before, in his predecessor’s reign, the land was economically weak. Tutankhamun sought to restore them, in particular with the Mitanni. Evidence of his success is suggested by the gifts from various countries found in his tomb. However despite great efforts of relations battles with Nubians and Asiatics were recorded in his temple. His tomb had body armour. Despite his young age, he still had diabetics, using a cane to walk. As for this delinquent, historians say he didn’t take part in these battles.
It is said that Tutankhamun died because of his appendages. Also he died because of his constant anguishes of malaria. This seemed to weaken his immune system. In his tomb, he is shown to have a mosquito bite on his cheek.
Tutankhamun however wasn’t lost forever. In 1924, Howard Carter and Lord Carnarvon searched the valley of kings and unwittingly they found a tomb, Tutankhamun’s tomb. When they searched inside they found his decomposed figure along with a statue of him. All his jewels were also there. It was a hit news story. The artefacts were shown on a tour of the United States of America before entering the United Kingdom before returning back to Cairo.
There are some unusual things about this tomb. Eight weeks after the discovery of the tomb, Lord Carnarvon got the same mosquito bite that Tutankhamun had and statically died. Then unusually the street lights went out in Cairo. It is also told that Tutankhamun’s tomb was also put on the titanic, making it sink. This was called the mummy’s curse. What was this curse? Is it real? Is this behind the tomb?

What I learned about Tutankhamun :

    1. Tutankhamun was the youngest Egyptian king ever! At just 9 years of age he became the king. He also died at a young age...

    2. When Tutankhamun's body was discovered there were some strange objects found in his skeleton. These objects include stuff like broken glass and wine glasses and other objects.

    3. Although Tutankhamen was the youngest Egyptian king ever he also died at the young age of 18 as his chariot crashed and his left knee broke. In those days nobody could really do anything about infections and his knee did not heal in time, and he died.

4 .Tests on Tutankhamun's body showed that he was quite slim and would have been about 5 feet 11 inches tall (180cm). They also revealed that he had a curved backbone and a damaged left foot that would have made him walk with a stick. Lots of walking sticks were found in his tomb.

    5. Some strange things happened after Howard Carter discovered Tutankhamun's tomb and objects were taken from it. People said there was a curse on the tomb. They called it The Curse of Tutankhamun or the Pharaoh's Curse. Nowadays most people think this is all nonsense.
