  1. The battle of Hastings was fought on 14 October 1066.The background to the battle was the death of the childless King Edward the Confessor in January 1066, which set up a succession struggle between several claimants to his throne.Although there continued to be rebellions and resistance to William's rule, Hastings effectively marked the culmination of William's conquest of England. They battled over each over.

There is a giant cloth called the Bayeux tapestry and it tells the story battle of hastings. The tapestry is in latin and is not english so we can't read it.There was a guy named Edward the confessor,he decides who should be the king or queen and he was actually king. He is a religious man. There was a mother man called William Duke of Normandy.Edward the confessor died because he got to old age,so William Edwards cousin was promised by Edward that he would be king when he died but England didn't want a foreigner to be king. There was another man called Harold godwin.William was furious that he couldn't be king so he wrote a letter to the new pope Alexander 2nd.They all sailed to the village hastings to battle and whoever won kept the UK.The english climbed to the top of the hill, they saw loads of people ready to fight.William brought archers to shot people.A normans arrow hit Harold in the eye whilst he was on his horse.Harrold ripped the arrow out and soon he got chopped up and William won but they all lost 10000 men.

  5. The Battle of Hastings was fought on October 14th 1066. William Duke of Normandy was a skilled and experienced military leader. He had fought and defeated the king of France in 1054 and 1057.
Harold's army was made up of a mixture of professional soldiers that were Harold's bodyguards, and men who had been collected on the march south from Stamford Bridge. Soldiers were poorly paid and anything that they took in battle they could keep at part of their payment.

Also, Harold was a fine soldier and leader in his own right. He had commanded the army of Edward the Confessor. When Edward was king and he had greatly impressed the Normans with his fighting skills when he was kept against his will in the court of William.

William jumped from his boat, he slipped and fell onto the beach. Some of his soldiers took this to be a sign of bad luck, but William picked up a handful of shingle and said "See!! I have taken England already."
William built a bailey castle on Pevensey Bay and held a feast to celebrate the Normans safe arrival. After this he moved east and inland a few miles from the coastal fishing town of Hastings.

After his march south, Harold set up his defence on Senlac Hill. This gave him an advantage over William as the Normans would have to fight up a hill wearing heavy chain mail armour. Also his horses would have to climb this hill with the weight of the riders on them.

Harold got shot in the eye with an arrow and died. The battle lasted all day but it would be wrong to assume that the Normans had won easily. For the first part of the battle, the Normans suffered heavy losses and they only took charge of the battle once the peasant soldiers of Harold had broken down the shield wall that protected them.

After this battle, William marched through Sussex and Kent crushing any resistance to him. He had himself crowned King William on Christmas Day in Westminster Abbey.

  6. The Battle of Hastings took place on the 14th October 1066.The battle started after the death of King Edward, the king of England, as he didn't have a heir.

The Duke of Normandy, William, was the cousin of Edward whereas the richest Saxon, Harold, was the brother-in-law of Edward. Both, Harold and William wanted to be the king of England. The Saxons elected Harold as their king because, they could not accept a foreigner to become their king. William was expecting the throne of England after Edward. He was furious and decided to fight for the throne.

The Normans sailed to England in Viking-style ships. They had a small army, but they possessed advanced weapons like bows and arrows. They also owned a cavalry. On contrary, although Saxons were huge army, they only had possessed primitive weapons such as spades, axes and rocks. They were walking on barefoot. The battle took place on a huge battlefield at Hastings.

Finally, William conquered the England as Harold was shot in the eye and was chopped into pieces by 4 Norman knights. With this, England went into the rule of Normans.

  9. In 1066 the battle of Hastings took place in Hastings. It was between William and Harold they used to be good friends but I am not too sure what happened between them then Harold took an oath to make sure he is the next king then Harold destroyed everyone in his path but then one Man stood in front of Harold, William he would do anything to be king. One day Harold`s army was sitting on the top of the mountain then William`s army was beneath them then William pretended to retreat so Harold`s army charged then William`s army turned around then all hell broke loose then one of the archers shot Harold in the eye.
