I think the Vikings were heroes because I believe that the Anglo-Saxons had control of Britain for way too long. Therefore the Vikings had the right to invade Britain and rule it for a while.
I think the vikings were villains because they invaded Britian and killed some British people. They are pillagers, murders and brigands, pretty much Nordic pirates. They were also particulary responsible in colonising and advancing their own territory through violent means. They stole land that wasn't theirs. They were blood thirsty. They plundered gold and belongings.Interesting fact they are personally responsible for introducing the word 'buserk' into the British language.
Villain or hero I think Vikings were both villains and heroes because there were two tribes of Vikings, one Danish and one Norwegian tribe. Danish covered England while Norwegian covered Shetland, Orkney, Scotland and parts of Ireland. There was only one problem for the Norwegian Vikings, there were Scots and pips on the island so the fought all the pips and Scots off. Danish settled with the Anglo-Saxons and lived peacefully.
This is what I think and I would like to know yours!
I think Vikings are heroes because some of them just came to Britain to grow crops. The seamen were good at spotting tides and causes of Tsunamis. The Vikings traded a lot around Europe. They were excellent at building boats, they built long and fast ships.
But they were acting as villains because they invaded Britain and some of them often killed Britishers, they started a war. They burnt Buildings, stole treasure, murdered monks and terrified everyone. The Vikings bought slaves and then sold them in a different place.
