The Ancient Greeks lived around 3, 500 years ago, their contraptions, discoveries & buildings helped modern-day people with ideas & landmarks!!!! For some people, life was good & many people lived in busy towns & cities. They built many temples & very important buildings, that stood on hills!! Art: Ancient Greek art was very beautiful & was very relative culture. Literature: The art of their writing was lost to the Greece around, 1,200 BC & for 500 years, Greece entered a age of illteracy. But, around 750 BC, Grecian traders came into contact with Phoenicians(people from the middle east), who used a script, called the Alphabet.
SOCRATES- First of the great Greek Philosophers.He is considered by many to be the founder of Westem philosophy.
PLATO-Student of Socrates.He wrote many dialogues using Socrates as a major character. He also founded the Academy in Athens.
ARISTOTLE-Student of Plato.Aristotle was a philosopher and scientist.He was interested in the physical world.He was also teacher to Alexander the Great.
Greek Scientists
ARCHIMEDES-He is considered one of the great mathematicians and scientists in history.He made many discoveries both in math and physics including many inventions.
ARISTARCHUS-An astronomer and mathematician, Aristarchus was the first to put the sun at the center fo the known universe rather than the Earth.
EUCLID-The Father of Geometry, Euclid wrote a book called Elements, likely the most famous mathematical textbook in history.
HIPPOCRATES-A stientist of medicine, Hippocrates is called the Father of western Medicine.Doctors still take the Hippocratic Oath today.
PYTHAGORAS-A scientist and philosopher, he came up with the Pythagorean Theorem stilluse used today in much of geometry.
They didn't eat beans because they thought that beans contained the soul of dead.
