  2. Ramesses the Great
    Was he really great?
    Yes:
    • He ended the battle of Kadesh victorious.
    • There is evidence that commoners thought the world would end when Ramesses died.
    • He was a peaceful man. We have evidence because he signed a peace treaty with his kingdom’s long – time foes, the Hittles.
    • He built many statues and temples, with reasoning of that to make his kingdom enlarge in prosperity.
    • People state that the tittle given by him was the commoner’s opinion (it was what the commoners thought of Ramesses II).
    • It is said that Ramesses II was the last spark of Egypt’s imperial power. Afterwards, it gained briskly in corruption.

    No:
    • He was preferred to have his own way.
    • He sometimes argued with others about petty things.
    • It was only because of someone else that they got the majority against the Hittles.
    • He rushed his people in his buildings, threatening people on the way.
    • It is said that he was the king interfering with Moses. This makes his description a bit abrasive

  4. Ramesses ii , Egyptian pharaoh was one of the most famous rulers of all time many people loved Ramesses but on the other hand he had many haters !
    Why was Ramesses great?
As prince, Ramesses joined his father in military campaigns. By the age of 22 he was fit and ready to lead battle himself! WOW. The most tremendous and famous battle of Ramesses' rule was the great battle of Kadesh. This was one of the most oldest recorded battle in history! Although no one really won Ramesses return home as a military hero. Ramesses was also known as a great builder; he built colossal statues and beautiful temples of is own.

Why was Ramesses not so great?

Ramesses was not so great because fought with so many people and country's like: Hittites, Syrians, Libyans and Nubians causing pain and fear. But Ramesses did deicide to sighn a peace treaty with Hittites bring peace to the rest of his rule.

  6. Rameses II the Great
    (Ruled 1279~1212 BC)
Name meaning: Re has finished him

Why was he a good King?

    1. He made Egypt rich by invading and conquering other poor countries surrounding his empire and stole their only treasures.
    2. As pharaoh, he accomplished more than any other Egyptian King, also reigning for about 70 years.
    3. Like his father, Seti I, he attacked the Hittites, (the chief opponents of Egypt) a number of times to win money and gold.

Why wasn't he a good King?

    1. As mentioned earlier, the Hittites were enemies of Egypt and when Rameses captured two 'spies', he tortured them until they spoke. They told him that the Hittite army was a hundred miles away. The pharaoh thought that this was his chance to attack and invade – but he was wrong. He soon realised that the spy had lied and he'd walked into a trap. He battled to save his life, but he knew he was defeated and went home.

    2. He was very obsessed with popularity and fame and some people became angry and annoyed that he was giving himself so much attention . . .

    3. Rameses made Hebrews his slaves, which led to disastrous results, as God was on the Hebrews' side. Rameses let them go, the set an army to chase them. When the got to the sea, God parted the water to let them through. Then the Egyptian army tried to follow, but they drowned. So by being cruel, Rameses actually lost his people.

3.Also he made a peace treaty with the Hitties to never battle with them again!

Why wasn't he a great pharaoh?
1.he wasn't a great pharaoh because he nearly always told fibs to everyone!
    2. Ramesses also cheated on his wives and girfriends, which wasn't very nice to them.
    3. Ramesses wasn't a great pharaoh as well because he fought his own army sometimes!

    Quick fact
He had 96 sons and 60 daughters which all add up to 156 children altogether which is a bit shocking because that is a lot children for just one little family!

Some people believe that Ramses was the pharaoh from the bible the one Moses asked to free the slaves but he refused. If this is true then Ramses shouldn’t be called great.

  13. Ramses the Great

What suggests that Ramses the Great was a good Pharaoh?

Ramses II is often regarded as the greatest, most celebrated and most powerful pharaoh of the Egyptian empire.

•He was a great military commander like his father, a warrior king who waged successful wars against Libya, and Nubia and the Hittites. He had also previously defeated pirates who plagued the Delta region, and during his 67 year reign, he brought to Egypt many great victories. Hieroglyphics inscribed within his tomb depict him killing innumerable Hittites (enemy tribes of Ramses) with his own hands. At the mere age of 22, he joined his father on a military campaign.

•Ramses not only built many temples, he enlarged and completed a lot of temples and buildings his father had started to create; he is best known for the big temple of Abu Simbel (Ramses Temple), the small temple of Abu Simbel (Nefertari Temple), and the Ramesseum, a shrine built by his father Sethi I that Ramses expanded when it was time to prepare for his cult of the death.

•Ramses had a massive impact on religion too. Akenhaten, the heretic king that had been at power a while ago, had created a religion that used to be practiced where Aton, the sun god, was the only god, and he had become so engrossed in this practise that he had let the empire of Egypt fall into neglect. Ramses brought Egypt back from this state, and made it rise to power again. After 30 years of his rule, he introduced the Sed festival, where a Pharaoh was officially turned into a complete god and worshipped.

What suggests that Ramses the Great wasn’t a good Pharaoh?

•Ramses has been popularly associated with the ‘Pharaoh’ of the Biblical Book of Exodus - the second book of the Torah, and the Hebrew Bible (Old Testament). If this is true, he was responsible for the inhuman treatment of the Hebrew or Israelite slaves held in captivity in Egypt. He also reneged on his promise on multiple occasions to allow the Israelites, led by Moses, to leave Egypt, until finally he was left with no option. The betrayal of Moses and the Israelites by the Pharaoh is a reflection of his cruel nature and double standards. However, it is not certain whether the Pharaoh in question is actually Ramses II, as Moses does not name the Pharaoh deliberately, and there is widespread debate among Egyptologists on this topic.

•Some people think that he was a show off and propagandist, making his mark by having his name inscribed on every possible stone. Some of his fame at least, must surely be put down to his flair for publicity: his name and the record of his feats on the battle fields were found everywhere in Egypt and Nubia.

•The battle of Kadesh for which he is famous for should perhaps not be called a battle, in the strictest sense of the word, but rather a large scale skirmish preceding the decisive encounter which never took place, and the failure of his campaign was a result of his tactical mistakes. Ramses described the campaign as a splendid victory, while in reality Kadesh remained in Hittite hands, Amurru fell to the Hittites and the Egyptian losses were substantial.

  21. So Great :
Ramasses was a great Pharaoh because he reigned more than 70 years, As a price, Ramasses joined the military campaign’s with his father Sethi 1 at the age of 22. His father became Pharaoh when Ramasses was 5 years old. Ramasses led the Egyptians army against many enemies including the Hittites, Syrians, Libyans and Nubians. He expanded the Egyptian empire and secured Egypt’s borders.

    Why not so Grate :
Ramasses decided to double rate the Temple buildings. He married more than 200 Queens and had many girlfriends. But, he cheated all of them and some have been killed by Ramasses himself. Ramasses also lied that The Egyptian’s won the battle of Kadesh.
